Happy Independence Day everyone…Did you know that the first Levi Jeans were made of hemp canvas… Being that hemp textile was the most durable fabric around, and is still to this day, Levi Strauss first imagined using hemp ...canvas for tents and tried selling them to the California Gold Rush miners. It turned out that these miners were not interested in shelter, so Levi improvised, using his canvas to make pants and because the miners lived a rugged lifestyle, a trend was born. Later on he adapted his pants with rivets, so the pockets could withstand the weight of the gold that the miners would put into their pockets and then as time raced on he replaced the hemp canvas with a fabric made of a cheaper material, to strengthen his bottom line, known today as cotton denim and dyed with the cheapest color at the time indigo blue. Making today’s iconic American jeans….
